The women's empowerment movement had elements from the legitimate rebels to birth control, corporate manipulation to vast ideological 20th-century legacies coming to fruition in the 21st. Women now occupy positions of power from presidents to CEO's, and all previously assumed roles have been challenged. Not all was as it came across on the surface, however, as the documentary series "Century of Self" illustrates. People like Edward Bernays, the nephew of Sigmund Freud, had a substantial impact on women starting to smoke, where the artificially amplified battle of the sexes served but corporate interest via psychoanalytic PR campaigns. It is an unstoppable force with enough layers to be intellectually explored for centuries as a turning point in humanity.
The digital piece is made originally in 2009, with seven separate photographed bodypainting models in four different sessions. The layers on top and below them were oil painted, ultimately to be composited in photoshop. It was reworked and color graded in Oct 2020 to this final form.
