Greenberg's Bagels Bed Stuy - 4/5
Store
Interior closed for COVID. Clean looking with attractive, pale green tile work and wooden flooring. Good ordering system and significant outdoor seating. A small but interesting drink selection with a menu that demonstrates a desire to be framed as an appetizing. Based on the view from outside the window, seemingly all fundamentals are covered.
4/5
Bagel
A large bagel with no central hole. Unusually terrained, like a raised-relief map. Points for texture variety that doesn't involve freshness or topping constitution. On the topping front, two-sided with standard offerings. Moderate density on bagel bottom and light on top. A deceivingly briny sheen to the shell that doesn't come across in flavor. More salt per bite would have been preferable here. For the dough, it is dense, chewy and soft all at once. Clearly fresh though not warm. A strong bagel for those that like a soft chew.
4/5
Cream Cheese
Served at cool temperature. Freshness apparent with no hint of overcheese. Good amount and even application. The scallion texture pops arrive at timely moments. Synergizes well with the bagel.
4/5
The definitive bagel survey of New York City. 202 bagels reviewed across all five boroughs, with notes of distinction given to the best stores, spreads and bagels. http://everythingiseverything.nyc/
The collection is part one of "Post Clarity," a 5-part NFT series documenting "2020: Total Clarity" by creative duo Highley Varlet. During "Total Clarity," artists Mike Varley and Jessi Highet walked 260 marathons and 7,000 miles around the five boroughs of NYC over one calendar year. https://highleyvarlet.com/
