Bagel Bob - 3.17/5
Store
A long store with ample space. Spanish pop music plays overhead. The staff wears branded tee-shirts with the Bob's Bagels logo on front and "I am making your order now" on back. Small selection of wrapped pastries, moderate drink selection. Bakery equipment visible in back, which is always reassuring. Spreads are unusually displayed: in shallow trays with a uniformly wavy, whipped top and uniform depth. They almost look like a tray of iced brownies.
3.5/5
Bagel
Large bagel. Light crumbling on shell. One-sided toppings, standard with moderate density. Unusually large amount of poppy seeds. Toppings applied in a way that almost looks like a Photoshop brush. Too consistent and perfect. No salt crystals or real salt flavoring. A soft bite, but to no advantage.
3/5
Cream Cheese
Served with good quantity and even coverage. Too much cheese flavor coming through. The scallions are too finely chopped and add no texture. Not much to speak of here.
3/5
The definitive bagel survey of New York City. 202 bagels reviewed across all five boroughs, with notes of distinction given to the best stores, spreads and bagels. http://everythingiseverything.nyc/
The collection is part one of "Post Clarity," a 5-part NFT series documenting "2020: Total Clarity" by creative duo Highley Varlet. During "Total Clarity," artists Mike Varley and Jessi Highet walked 260 marathons and 7,000 miles around the five boroughs of NYC over one calendar year. https://highleyvarlet.com/
