"Digital art can be easily and endlessly duplicated, but non-fungible tokens allow buyers to confirm ownership," writes The Guardian Kari Paul. "entering the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) was the next logical step for the 51-year-old Irish artist, whose work explores themes of digital currency and value."

Ethereum is a digital way that embraces blockchain technology and extends its use to various applications. Ether, its native cryptocurrency, is the second largest on the market.

The Ethereum platform was founded in 2015 by programmer Vitalik Buterin, creating a decentralized and collaborative tool. Ether (ETH), its native cryptocurrency, is a token that can be used in transactions using this software. Similar to bitcoin, ether exists as part of an independent peer-to-peer financial system, free from government mediation. Also, like bitcoin, ether's value skyrocketed in a short period.

In January 2016, ether was trading around $1, and in January 2018, the cryptocurrency touched its highest level so far at $1391. However, in October 2020, ether traded far from its historical peak to be below $390. Its value has proven to be volatile, with frequent intraday fluctuations. Although this is only one among hundreds of cryptocurrencies, it is also one of the few with a significant market capitalization, alongside its two major rivals, bitcoin, and bitcoin cash.

Artistic performance rights are now tokenized on the Ethereum blockchain The rights to an artistic performance work have been tokenized on the Ethereum blockchain.

Also, a mechanism has been established to reward project contributors any moment the NFTs are bought.

A legally binding contract allows the rights to the film to the holder of the ERC-721 token on which the hash and metadata of the artwork are stored. This means that if, for example, the Museum of Modern Art wanted to buy the piece, it would first appear to acquire an Ethereum wallet.

Additional tokens have been minted and distributed to contributors to the film. If someone buys the piece, the proceeds will be divided based on holding these additional tokens.

For any additional sales, 10% of the sale price will go directly to the original artists. Any fan donations sent to an Ethereum address will also be split among the contributors.
