Originally made for a postcard set collaboration with my all-female art group, Tequila Tea Party.
I wanted my magical girl to be a little bit crazy but also still very feminine, so I tried mixing some traditionally more masculine elements like guns, but made it pink and sparkly.
The gun is a replacement for a wand- thinking back to a video game I liked a lot called The Secret World, where you could be a healer but it's through an assault rifle shooting magical healing bullets. If only real world guns worked the same way. The outfit was inspired by classical show magicians, but also a bit by circus entertainers.
This piece is also inspired by classic pin-up posters. I've always liked the energy of the women in Gil Elvgren's works, so I tried channeling that into this piece.
