The Virgin of the spinning wheel (1501), 2020
50 x 80 in 127 x 203 cm
Digital Oil Painting.
The image designed by Leonardo represents the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus, who looks longingly at a spinning wheel that the Virgin is using to spin. The distaff serves as a symbol both of the domestic character of Mary and of the Cross on which Christ was crucified, and perhaps also reminds of the Moiras or Fates, traditionally represented in mythology as spinners.
Edition of 7.
