When did we learn to want everything? We want. We need. We want to want. We want to need. We need to want. Consequently, we both need and want to consume. This endless desiring is the productive force that drives our world. The creation of this desire cannot end, even if everything else does. This force surrounds us in an endless cycle of formation and dissipation. In this oscillation it declares itself to us and us to it, our need. It whispers gently, “There is no alternative”.  In our imagination can we give form to this dream lover?

Mark Titchner’s work involves an exploration of the tensions between the belief systems that inform our society, be they religious, scientific or political. Focusing on an exploration of words and language, much of his recent production has been based in the public realm both in the UK and internationally.
