Who can fake better is the competition! Fool everyone on social media by faking a false life. The pressure to fit in the society is so high that they fake it if they can not make it. They wear a false mask to show off a false life and smile that doesn’t come from a genuine place and intent. The more miserable they are in real life the happier they try to look on social media. It is to compete with their family, friends, and foes. And people they don't know. A game of likes and comments and people go to any extent to gain it. Dopamine doesn't come only from drugs like sugar, caffeine or alcohol. Notifications, likes, comments and followers are a big boost in dopamine release. They think everyone is doing it so they should follow the norm. A small percent, do use it for what it is intended. Maybe you are in that percent, or maybe not.

Social media influencers post perfect pictures of their perfect selves living perfect lives. You want their perfect life. Unconsciously, you associate it with the brands they have in their photos (sponsored for this reason) so you go out and buy those brands too. Or maybe you don’t because you can’t afford it, so you buy a knockoff. The effect is the same, you just made their lifestyle seem even more desirable by trying to imitate it. Now all your friends are doing it too, so you think it's perfectly sane and normal. Even if some would be real, it would still be just a small spotlight in someone's day, and not a constant 24/7 lifestyle. If you feel happy doing this, don't you wonder why this sense of happiness is always very short lived and often feeling like a meal with empty calories?

Live the life you want, not the life you were made to believe you want. |
