Utopias lack veracity if their icons are not modernized. Revolutions that recycle and import ideological icons tend to fall into a surreal category that is closer to a "socialist" theme park than to an idea of a possible society. The mutation and adaptation of the icon in desperate attempts at modernization go hand in hand with an endogenous evolution that sometimes, intentionally or not, turns the signified against the signifier.
