A collaborative performance piece that explores sound, rhythm and movement as a symbiotic language. Performed by improvisational performer-multi-instrumentalist Carolina Fuentes and International Martial Arts Champion Svitlana Zavialova. The performance provides the experience of a real time visualization of the frequencies inside Svitlana’s brain as she interprets Carolina’s musical performance into martial movement forms.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

Svitlana Zavialova aka Wu Woman (movement performer) is wearing an EEG Headset. Frequencies in her brain are visualized on the screen
Carolina Fuentes aka Mila Tina - (drummer percussionist) is performing various improvisational rhythms.

Movement performers are not familiar with these rhythms and hear them for the first time in front of the audience.

The movement performer moves in response to the rhythmic sound, interpreting the rhythm upon reception in real time. The EEG captures the perception of the rhythm and the moment turning it into movement. As frequencies of the brain are being visualized in different colors as they appear in different parts of the brain through synesthesia. We offer the audience the ability to see the measurable cognitive transmission of the rhythm into movement.

The technical device that is used for the performance detects theta (4Hz – 8Hz), alpha (8Hz – 12Hz), beta (12Hz – 25hz), and gamma (25Hz – 45Hz) frequencies. Each of them is visualized in blue, purple, magenta, and red in different brain areas such as frontal cortex, parietal cortex, temporal cortex, and occipital cortex.
