collection: 01_Preview title: vitruvianviewofgig This is our first published NFT.
Like the others in the collection it takes its cue from one of the themes that inspired the works of this great project that we want to realize. This work is about Gig Economy. With this term we refer to that world of work that combines and sums up the skills of a person, and squeezing it, makes it apply without regard to the protections that traditional work environments were often able to offer.
“Gig” in fact takes its name from concert, musical event, and from the fact that one shows up, in person or online, does the work with his or her skills, takes his or her paycheck and ends the working relationship there. A constant now in what are the productive sectors opened by globalization, it is enough to make two examples of very different nature to frame the problem: the freelance copywriter and the rider of delivery systems. People who, in theory, thanks to their jobs could do something satisfying and not too demanding for them, but who, in a civil and modern society, most of the time are totally left alone and without protection.
Vitruvius, the Roman architect, who gave a lecture on the hypothetical perfect man, is the link we used to say that the gig economy, a concept that makes so many ultramodern economists rinse their mouths, could be a good concept only in the perfect life: perfect times, perfect families, no problems. In all other possible applications, it remains a very alienating thing for the worker, the person. A kind of piecework, in which too many extralaborative issues remain the responsibility of the worker himself. That in addition to a lot of skills that must be perfected to be able to put together a salary, must be able to build on their shoulders non-existent labor protections.
A point of view on an imperfect and demostrated circle that has nothing more perfect than Vitruvius’ lesson taken up by Leonardo. A system that cannot be thought of as a new form of economy if one thinks of the lives of the individuals behind a job, or a task.
01_Preview, the title of the collection you can find on the marketplace, represents the first of three steps of presentation of an art project we have been working on for two years.
Each of these artworks represents 4 themes on which we wanted to confront and produce. 4 scenarios that tell our way of representing the world around us through:
- Sanity
- Sex
- Money
- Gig Economy.
Each NFT has its own unique meaning but the whole collection mixes and anticipates the details and meanings of what will be the final project. The sale of these NFTs will help to realize the project and from the total net earnings of each collection we will donate 15% to the non-profit association Fraternità Parola e Vita APS of which we are part.
