Everybody is chasing the cheese and looking for the next “come-up” so I felt that a mousetrap was contextual to the current state of digital art. With the introduction of Non Fungible Tokens (NFTs) and Blockchain, digital art has found a new home with endless possibilities. The idea that most projects will fail, probably 99% of NFT projects will fail in the next twenty-plus years may or may not be true. When you reach for the cheese you may or you may not get it without harm, what is the rate of success? Maybe one percent? Maybe more? The idea for this project is that what you see is what you get. Included with every mousetrap is an original poem written by me, with the golden mousetrap you can have one out of three poems. With only thirty-three mouse traps, the gold series will only have eleven sets of three poems that can be collected.

The original idea came to mind over two years ago when I was first introduced to NFTs thanks to CryptoKitties. Also, I found initial coin offerings (ICOs) very interesting with the promise of endless success and amazing promises, just like IPOs. So I thought of both as “traps” like mouse traps. They offer something but it might cost you your life savings. The original idea was to photograph golden mouse traps in a shape that spells ICO. However, I felt that just minting a photograph was not contextual to the platform so the project was never made. I wanted to bring the luxury mouse traps to life and with the second wave of crypto frenzy, I felt two years later mouse traps are still relevant. The golden mousetrap was forged out of .999 fine digital gold with a hidden poem inside bringing it to life.

As we move forward and everything plays out we will see what is lost, what is gained, and what remains. I look forward to creating more mouse traps (Bronze & Silver) and expanding my work in the digital space with more NFT projects. This is only the beginning and I am happy to be part of this digital art renaissance. Enjoy the cheese!
