The anxious mind. A mind that prevails when we don't want it to. The first step on the ladder that became my mental health journey was anxiety. I grew up knowing that something was wrong. I just didn't know what. The truth is, we grow up wanting to be adults, but as adults, we just want to live in our childhood. Free of responsibilities. Free of being owned. The pitchforks represent the million eyes watching when you step outside. The person is pointing in their direction. Trying to distract them, but in reality, trying to distract their mind from the fact that they're the ones being sought after. Shot at the 14th Street Gallery in 2017 in Los Angeles. The sale of this piece goes directly into the financial cost of treatment for my mental health.
Into the super(8) mind of artist Amanda Martinez, a Latinx director, and photographer who sees life differently because of the mental health issues they go through. Raised in the streets of Miami, Martinez has grown to harness her mental health as a superpower. In the words of Ye, Being Bipolar is my superpower. I shoot everything on celluloid.
