Some burrowing owls have darker eyes, more black than yellow. I have found that these dark-eyed owls also tend to be younger owlets, as I have yet to encounter an adult burrowing owl myself with similarly dark eyes. This one owlet had little Golden specks in its eyes, which reminded me of a dark galaxy being lit up with little stars.
