Ruba Salameh: Stripcle B.R.O.
This is Ruba Salameh’s GENESIS piece.
From a 2020 body of work titled Tensegrity, this painting challenges authority. The minimalist geometric shapes are being colonised by an extra-terrestrial element: ants. Despite their size and their innocuous presence, Salameh is using the ants as a device to launch subtle criticism upon notions of occupation and colonial power, a commentary that directly stems from her Palestinian identity. The tiny ants, although resilient, also perhaps, indicate the powerlessness of the Palestinian struggle.
This piece is originally an acrylic on canvas, with each ant meticulously hand painted. For the NFT counterpart, the ants have been individually animated and can be seen crawling step by step across the frame.
Ruba Salameh was born in Nazareth in 1985. She obtained both B.A (2006-10) and M.F.A in Fine Arts at Bezalel Academy for Arts and Design in Jerusalem (2012-2014).
She lectures in the History of Art painting and practical classic painting at the Arab College in Haifa in addition to conducting short term workshops at Bezalel Academy.
She participated in several exhibitions including “Limitless” at The Walled Off Hotel, Bethlehem, 2019; Contemporary Arabesque, Museum of Islamic Art, Jerusalem, 2018; SRINAGAR BIENNALE, Basel, 2018; and “Ghost Dance” Group Exhibition curated by Fadwa Naamna, Haifa, 2017; Tensegrity, Dubai, 2020.
Into The Revolution: an exhibition of NFTs alongside physical art curated by MORROW collective.
Revolution indicates change. NFTs represent a revolution in the art world. They are opening up new potential and opportunities for creators, producers and buyers of art. In this exhibition, you will see physical artworks and NFTs derived from those pieces.
Also, you will notice that one shape is dominant; the circle. The circle is a continuous round, a revolutionary shape, one that signifies movement and speed and, it is a fitting metaphor for the pace at which we are hurtling into the brave new world of crypto art.
Welcome to the revolution.
