A few weeks ago, news about Arthur, a large male bear killed by Emanuel Prince of Lichtenstein in the Carpathian mountains of Romania, brought the issue of wildlife back to public attention. While this hunting loving prince might have pulled the trigger, a lot of other issues killed this bear, corruption, loss of habitat due to massive and uncontrolled deforestation, competition for resources etc. However, at the root of all these problems lies our unconscious desecration of nature. It is easier to take and take and take, if you think that which you are taking from has no Spirit to animate it. While we might have evolved to see slavery (the condition of being legally owned by someone else and forced to exist in their service) morally wrong, we fail to see how we are in a similar relationship with nature and all its creatures, where we forcefully extract benefits and resources from our environment, that we think we are entitled to because we are on top of the food chain and in our unconscious living, environment equals resources for the taking. Thus we think nature belongs to us. The problem of the loss of animal and plant diversity on this planet will not be solved unless we awaken to see the brother in that bear. This cosmic bear is here to tell you that nature does not belong to humans, we are a part of nature just like he is and we are all equal and animated by the same intelligence. While we cannot all become bear saviors, there are people who are already doing a good job and we can support them. Bear Again is a bear orphanage in Romania and the only place in Europe where bear cubs, that for various reasons became orphans, have a chance at a normal life in the wild. They retrieve bear cubs, care for them and reintroduce them back into the wild. Brother Bear is part of my Cosmic Guardians series.
