The year is 2990, fifty years after the Neue Regimes conquered Earth in the year 2860. Earth is now unrecognizable compared to its 26th century state. The atmosphere is dominated by polluted clouds of smog which shield the surface from the sun and upper atmosphere from outer space, the ruins of buildings and skyscrapers are left to crumble, and the entire surface is awash in much more severe climate weather and war than before. But even though the new regime is far more authoritarian and destructive than the previous democratic governments, the situation on Earth has slowly settled into a state of impasse. Meanwhile, life in space is prospering, and new space colonies have been established around the solar system to serve as humanity's new home while the surface is rebuilt.
