Xzaviar Benitez
Assimilation is a trial by fire for Xzavier, a non-native speaker who moved to a predominantly homogenous population. Xzaviar was a custodian originally from Argentina but immigrated to Lochpond County in the Fall of 2012 and immediately started working odd jobs trying to get a foothold in his new life in this community. It wasn't until 2017, when he landed the job as a cook at Lemmy Central Elementary School, that Xzaviar's life began to change. Xavier had a sense of humor, a passion for food, and incorporated elements of traditional dishes that the children loved. The PTA of Lemmy Central Elementry nominated Xzavier for "Person of the Year." in 2020.
This impression was inspired by the school and how children can be the difference makers and the engine of change. Our children's thoughts and opinions hold weight. Their innocence and naiveness can help tear down hardened walls of prejudice.
