As the first part of this series, I think this NFT needs a short introduction. The history of the art photography NFT is being written day by day. Justin Aversano's Twin Flames was minted just 8 months ago, around February 2021. This series of NFTs will be documenting the most relevant events for art photography in the NFT world as they happen. Although I'm sure I'm missing some events, my interest is in the works that helped establish photography as a valid for of art in the NFT art world.

The first big event for photography in the NFT world seems to be the appearance of Justin Aversano's Twin Flames on opensea. This series of photographs about twin brothers and sisters, propelled by Aversano's magnetic interest on twins because of a brother/sister that he never got to know, is presented in a typology of 100 photographs on opensea. What makes it important, is that Aversano figured out a way to create a community around the work, and an extended one that wanted to be part of the work itself. By making it a closed number of photographs and calling it a collection, the images became collectible objects to be traded and hold. The holders became part of a small club, and people outside of that club wanted to get inside. The attention that Aversano kept with his collectors and the constant building of a myth that kept growing thanks to his management of the narrative around the work, made Twin Flames THE ultimate photography work on the NFT world for that time, and being it a well done work, it stood on top of every other photography attempt that failed to understand the dynamics of the platform. Justin Aversano's triumph is that of understanding those dynamics and playing the game to perfection supported by a solid photo-work.

Twin Flames put the bases of how a photography work has to look and has to do in order to live inside of the NFT world and some other works followed soon, starting with those bases and little by little pushing it into new grounds for the art photography NFT.

NFT art/photography aphorisms by Fernando Gallegos collection image

A series of aphorisms about the NFT as a form of art and the way photography works as a medium in it. In the description of each one of them there's a longer explanation text.

As a way of pushing myself to think hard about the conceptual side of what we are doing in the NFT space as artists, I decided to mint these short thoughts on different aspects of the NFT as an art form.

If you want to support this work, the .05 ETH price is thought as a voluntary donation.
