The inspiration from the Book of Matthew was to show an abstract image of Jesus about to multiply five loaves and two fish to feed 5,000 followers. The piece is a reminder of God’s supernatural power to do things and provide when all seems impossible. Words from the bible, presented in Hebrew text, are painted around the baskets and the scroll. The basket on the left reads, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction,” from Proverbs 1:7. The basket on the right reads, “Blessed shall you be in the city and blessed shall you be in the country,” from Deuteronomy 28:3. The scroll reads, “God has chosen thee to be a special people unto himself,” from Deuteronomy 7:6. The baskets are shown as a reminder to not just eat the physical food God gives us, but eat His Word as well.
There is a rainbow shown in this painting. A question came to me, and that was, what is normally at the end of a rainbow? The answer is treasure. This painting shows the ‘Treasure’ as The Word of God painted on the scroll.
