Supay is a prison guard with a stern face who rarely smiles because she hides a dark secret. She ties her hair up as tight as she can so her head won’t explode.
She searches all the prison visitors, trying to find alcohol and is well known for making life hell for all the new prisoners. She wears a big crucifix on a necklace and every morning she goes to the chapel to pray on her knees. She is often drunk from the alcohol she seizes from the prisoners.
She occupies a little room on the roof to spy on the prisoners with a very old pair of binoculars, spending the entire day there. In the evening she goes to the courtyard and calls “La lista,” the roll call. She is a corrupt and abusive character within the prison.
Concept by Violeta Ayala. Costume design by Maria Corvera. Illustrated in VR by Rilda Paco. Animation by Roly Elias.
The eccentric deity the Jaguaress greets you at the velvet curtain, the gateway between theatre and lived experience. She casts you as Inti, a young man who dreamed of being the Sun God, (son of Viracocha, the maker of time), but ended up in Prison.
Inside the world of Prison X, you relinquish control over reality, as you embody one of the characters in the Jaguaress’ story where you have to coexist with devils, saints, corrupt prison guards and even a western filmmaker. Prison X is a mythological journey inside the dreams and nightmares of the Neo-Andean underworld.
Prison X premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2021 to critical acclaim and will premiere in Europe at Cannes XR.
