No other world champion achieved such fame beyond the chess world as Robert James Fischer, the eleventh World Chess Champion. Many consider him the greatest chess player of all time. In 1972 he won the World Chess Championship against Boris Spassky in Reykjavík. In 1975 Fischer refused to defend his title.
