Genesis’88 staged their first Acid House party on Saturday 10th December 1988. The chosen venue was a warehouse they broke and entered for purposes of throwing a party. Set near the city in East London, close to the famous Wentworth Street Market. House Music and Acid House music was a relatively new sound produced in the States. The genre reached UK shores at the same time as the banned drug MDMA. What followed was a major cultural shift heralded as The Second Summer of Love. Genesis’88 formed after this epic summer and started a long run of historic events. Genesis’88 teamed up on occasion with other giants in the game such as Sunrise, Biology, or Energy. Genesis’88 broke into huge warehouses then created fake documents giving them legal permission to be in said building. Wayne Anthony’s job was to front law enforcement and convince them the event was legal. At times claiming to be George Michael’s assistant manager at an exclusive showing of a new single produced by said artiste. Wayne Anthony’s secondhand books and flyers command hundreds of pounds on E-Bay.
