If you missed last week on NFT Twitter, here’s a recap: Ryder Ripps is a bit obsessed with the idea that BAYC was made by Nazis. Do I think BAYC was made by Nazis? I don’t know, but my gut is telling me not really. The creators of BAYC are just lazy art thinkers, kinda like sports teams. I think the creators of BAYC are too intellectually tame to do something like that on purpose, but I think they could have unintentionally injected the white man’s legacy of superiority, racism, militarism and sexism into the project without even realizing it. That’s kind of how art works, it’s a reflection of what’s inside of us, and try as hard as we might, we cannot erase that fact. Our worldview seeps out despite our best attempts to water it down or mask it.
A few months ago a prominent NFT artist said she saw on Twitter, BAYC guys putting Bored Apes heads on naked black women’s bodies, and was rightfully appalled.
Azealia’s 212 song is still my favorite, ever. “I guess that cunt getting eaten” continues to be the best line ever.
