Part of the Hollywood Rocks NFT Collection

The first ever Interactive 3D NFT, Architectural Archive ("Digital Twin") of the historic Troubadour nightclub on the Blockchain. (CLICK HERE to experience the interactive model)

Opened in 1957 by Doug Weston, the Troubadour was the most influential venue in folk music during the 60s, early 70s, and subsequently for singer-songwriters and Rock & Roll. Located at 9081 Santa Monica Blvd. West Hollywood, CA., the small music venue has played a pivotal role in the careers of countless artists including Jackson Browne, The Byrds, Neil Diamond, Eagles, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, J.D. Souther, James Taylor, Tom Waits, and other prominent and successful performers, whose performances there established their future fame. In 1970, Elton John was introduced by Neil Diamond at the Troubadour, marking his first U.S. show. The 2019 film Rocketman depicts this electrifying debut. “My whole life came alive that night, musically, emotionally . . . everything,” John later recalled to the Los Angeles Times. “It was like everything I had been waiting for suddenly happened.”

The club also has some history in comedy. In October 1962, comedian Lenny Bruce was arrested on obscenity charges for using the word "schmuck" on stage. Legendary comics Cheech & Chong and Steve Martin were discovered at the Troubadour in the early 1970s. In 1974, John Lennon and his friend Harry Nilsson were ejected from the club for drunkenly heckling the Smothers Brothers.

Today, the Troubadour still attracts small and large acts of all genres, including big name music artists looking to play an intimate set or give surprise performances to lucky fans.

You will notice on the 3D model that the Troubadour's windows are boarded up. This serves as a timestamp of when the imagery was captured. The club closed throughout 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic but has since re-opened. Yay!!

Side note… Another noteworthy historic Hollywood structure is also visible from the 3D model and GeoTIFF. The yellow bungalow to the right of the Troubadour is the legendary Dan Tana's restaurant, which opened in 1964 and is one of the most iconic restaurants in Los Angeles and a favorite hangout for the Hollywood set.

Become Part of the Historic Legacy

The first collection of NFTs to digitally archive the landmark sites of the notorious music and nightlife scene that made the area around Hollywood and the Sunset Strip legendary.

The, 1 of 1, pieces in this collection mark the beginning of another chapter for these fabled venues. The structures, where so much history was made, will now persist into our digital future on the Blockchain as a tribute to the rich artistic and cultural contributions that the area has given to people worldwide.

Each piece was produced specifically for this NFT archiving, through the rendering of photographs captured from above each building along with precise location data. Using a process called photogrammetry, the photos & data data were then rendered into interactive 3D models to preserve an accurate visualization of the structure into the future.

The structures may ultimately fall, but their digital likeness will live on.
