05.Tsuruga(Wakamatsu) Castle/Fukushima

Tsurugajo (Wakamatsu Castle) is a castle located in Ote-machi, Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture, and is a national historic site. Locally, it is called Tsuruga Castle, but because there are other castles named after this crane in other regions, it is called Wakamatsu Castle outside the local area. The five-story castle tower was reconstructed in 1965 using reinforced concrete, and the interior is now home to the Wakamatsu Castle Museum, where visitors can learn about the history of Aizu. In 2011, they were replaced with red tiles, the same tiles used at the end of the Edo period. 鶴ヶ城(若松城)は、福島県会津若松市追手町にある城で国の史跡です。地元では鶴ヶ城と呼ばれますが、この鶴にちなんだ名の城が他地方にもあるために地元以外では若松城と呼ばれています。 鶴ヶ城でもひときわ目立つ5層の天守閣は1965年に鉄筋コンクリート造で外観復興再建されたもので、内部は「若松城天守閣郷土博物館」になっており会津の歴史に触れることができます。2000年には、天守閣に続く建物である干飯櫓、南走長屋が江戸時代の工法と技術を用いて復元。2011年には幕末当時と同じ「赤瓦」へのふき替えを実施。現存する天守閣では、国内唯一の赤瓦の天守閣となりました。
