Carl Jung was the 20th-century genius of psychoanalysis. Expanding on the psychological theories of Freud, Jung hugged the teachings of past religions, symbols, archetypes, and integrated them into therapeutic techniques devised to unearth the individual's unconscious rendering them conscious and thus a subject of exploration. He pioneered the concept of the collective unconscious: the parts of our unconscious that is shared across individuals through inheritance and stories.

The Books of Horus project was born from the realization that recent deep generative AI models seemed to be able to channel parts of the collective unconscious to the surface through visual imagery. The reason being, some of these AI models are trained on hundreds of millions of images and corresponding captions accumulated from the internet, instilling the collective visual understanding, and in turn, the collective unconscious of the internet.

To dig deep, Books of Horus exhibits Carl Jung's Aion: Researches into the Phenomenology of the Self. Aion, one of the most phenomenal, intense work of Jung, brings forth the essence of the psyche in its first 4 chapters: the ego, the shadow, the syzygy (i.e. anima and animus) and the self.

For every sentence of each chapter, multitude of animations were generated from random seeds, and then handpicked to capture the most symbolic and aesthetic depictions. Imagery for a single chapter was computed for days on high-end GPUs. Books of Horus is in effect about mining our collective unconscious.

This edition presents the audiovisual reading experience of the first chapter of Aion: The Ego. The ego is the core of our consciousness. Understanding its inner workings and confronting it merely as part of the self, not subjugating ourselves to it, is the key to individuation and peace of mind.

The subtitle is included as an unlockable content.

The Library of Horus showcases the first AI-generated illustrations for books. For each sentence, an animation is computed that often explains or uncovers otherwise hidden visual dimensions of meaning.
