I lost my father to suicide in 2014, and in light of that, I became incredibly attached to my mom, who loves birds. We would talk on the phone at least 2 times a day, usually more, always ending with "I love you". However, a few years ago my mom found out that I'm bisexual and our relationship changed dramatically. Since then she has not said those 3 words to me even once. In June 2021 for the first time in my life, she requested I make her a painting. Desperate for her approval again I stopped all my commissions and slaved on this piece for months...but no matter how much I worked on it, it was never good enough for her. It has sat in my files glaring at me, reminding me that I may never get her approval. I want to find this piece a home where it will truly be loved. The title comes from the saying: "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush"; meaning the things we currently have are worth a lot more than the things you hope to get - because we may never actually get them.
