During a solo trip to New Zealand and on the night of my 35th birthday, I made my way to this enchanting location on one of the southern most points of the country in hopes of capturing the lighthouse at Nugget Point under a moonless sky. Upon arriving, a sat on a perch above the path to the lighthouse and watched the sunset get enveloped by clouds which developed into a huge storm. Soaked and resided to not getting the image I had envisioned, I packed up and begin the trip back to my campsite. When I arrived and stepped out of the car, the skies had cleared and I made the decision to rush back for a second try. Under darkness, I made the short trek back to the spot I had been at before and was treated to an incredibly clear sky filled with the Milky Way above the circling lighthouse. I sat, watching and listening to the waves crashing below in awe, thinking about how fortunate I was to be in such a place and have this experience completely to myself and then took out my camera.
