“What are you to the whole, and what is the whole to you?”

"The Masses" is a collection of 7 conceptual photographic images that probe at the relationship and interplay between the individual, the collective, the distinct roles they both hold in modern life, and human behaviour/ psychology.

Through a combination of staging and digital manipulation, these images propose distilled & surreal re-imaginings of the everyday collective happenings of our world. Removed from reality just enough to invoke the uncanny, they hold up a mirror to what we often overlook and accept
without question.

While surreal in nature, the images highlight a very real predicament magnified by the dire circumstances we find ourselves in: do we examine, re-construct, or dismantle the collective systems and power structures that divide, isolate, and control us to better serve our species and our planet before it’s too late, or do we capitulate to the existing paradigm and hope for the best?
