Lewis Whyld - The Egyptian Revolution. A collection of 15 historic images.

In 2011 I travelled to Cairo, Egypt to cover an uprising that became the Egyptian Revolution. Protesters gathered in Tahrir Square and with the revolution gaining pace Cairo was described as a war zone. As President Mubarak attempted to keep power tanks and troops descended on the square. Prisoners were released and many attacked the protesters in running street battles. At least 846 Egyptians died and thousands were injured. During my coverage I was kidnapped twice, first by a large gang of Mubarak supporters armed with machetes and then by the Egyptian army at gunpoint.

These images represent a turning point in history and the genesis of the Arab Spring, a revolution of citizens risking their lives to demand change that continues today. These NFTs preserve history and provide a resource for future historians with provenance traceable to the original photographer.
