About the STATUS Project

The STATUS project presents an avant-garde NFT collection that sets a benchmark for digital status symbols in the modern world. Unlike established NFT collections, such as CryptoPunks, which weren't originally designed as digital status symbols, STATUS represents a step forward in the NFT space. It establishes the foundation for an onchain hierarchy with NFTs inspired by Suprematism art, distinct from the typical PFPs.

STATUS provides a unique opportunity to explore the ongoing evolution and transformation of social status symbols in the digital age. It offers a fresh perspective on understanding the role of NFTs in modern society and invites everyone to participate in the contemporary status game in a novel and engaging way. Now, anyone can choose their social status group and obtain a distinctive digital status symbol on the OpenSea marketplace.

STATUS NFT Model

The STATUS NFT collection comprises a total of 25,050 NFTs intended to represent social status symbols. The STATUS hierarchical structure consists of three main status groups (Elite, Privileged, and Commoners), two outliers (Gods and Deplorables), and one isolated status group (Outcasts).

I. MAIN GROUPS

The main status groups of the STATUS hierarchy model are Elite, Privileged, and Commoners. These status groups are distinguished by specific colors. Elite are represented in white, Privileged in black, and Commoners in red. Each of these main groups consists of three subgroups, differentiated by geometric shapes, ensuring visual distinction. The square shape represents dominance, the circle shape represents prestige, and the triangle shape represents wealth.

II. OUTLIERS

The STATUS hierarchy model includes two outlier groups: Gods and Deplorables. Gods exhibit the utmost levels of prestige, dominance, and wealth, while Deplorables lack any of these attributes. Gods are exceptionally rare, with only 50 available NFTs. On the other hand, Deplorables are the most common NFTs in the collection. Deplorables have a unique value proposition, as they can be sent to others to express contempt.

III. OUTCASTS

Outcasts are a socially isolated group that does not belong to the standard hierarchical system. Members of this group are represented by a diamond shape and possess various levels of dominance, wealth, and prestige. Diamond NFTs represent those who have moved beyond the conventional hierarchical system and prefer to live in their own microverse. The Outcasts group consists of three subgroups, each distinguished by unique colors.

About Social Hierarchy

Social hierarchy constitutes a fundamental characteristic prevalent in the majority of existing societies. Hierarchy refers to the ranking of members in social groups based on the power, influence, or dominance, whereby some members are superior or subordinate to others. The organization of social groups into a hierarchy serves as an important adaptive mechanism that benefits the group as a whole.

Social status plays a fundamental role in shaping individual identities, influencing interpersonal dynamics, and determining access to resources and opportunities within societies. Social status serves as a measure of social worth, granting individuals privileges, respect, and influence, while also establishing hierarchies that organize and structure social systems.

Three key factors – dominance, prestige, and wealth – determine one’s position in the social hierarchy model. Dominance and prestige reflect two evolutionarily distinct routes to gaining status and influence. Prestige is achieved by having specialized skills, whereas dominant individuals use threat or fear to exert influence over others. Wealth has historically served as a defining factor in social stratification, with individuals belonging to higher social classes amassing greater wealth, while those in lower social classes possess less.

Finally, status symbols serve as visible indicators of one’s social standing. By displaying status symbols, individuals can communicate their success, wealth, or influence to others, shaping how they are perceived and respected within their community. Status symbols also fulfill psychological needs such as self-esteem and social validation. Possessing or displaying status symbols can boost one’s confidence and provide a sense of belonging or acceptance within a particular social group.

About Suprematism

Suprematism, an avant-garde movement created by Kazimir Malevich, was amongst the first radical developments in abstract art. Suprematism emerged as a quest for pure abstraction, aiming to reach the utmost limits of artistic expression. Suprematists sought to uncover the ‘zero degree’ of painting, the point beyond which the medium could not go without ceasing to be art.

Suprematism incorporated the use of squares, circles, and crosses for specific reasons. These geometric shapes were chosen for their simplicity, universality, and ability to represent the fundamental elements of visual expression. The square, circle, and cross possessed inherent qualities that resonated with the core principles of Suprematism, such as balance, harmony, and the reduction of form to its essential elements.

By utilizing these elemental shapes, Suprematist artists aimed to explore the purest and most fundamental aspects of art, pushing the boundaries of abstraction and challenging traditional artistic conventions. These geometric forms also allowed for a direct and immediate visual impact, conveying a sense of clarity and visual order that aligned with the movement’s emphasis on the fundamental building blocks of art.

Malevich delineated the evolution of Suprematism into three distinct stages: the “black,” “colored,” and “white” phases. The Suprematism movement commenced with the black stage, exemplified by Malevich’s iconic “Black Square” (1915), which represented the epitome of the “zero degree” of painting. Another famous Malevich’s artwork is “White on White” (1918).

By delving into the depths of abstract art and exploring the possibilities of form and color, Suprematism emerged as a groundbreaking artistic movement, challenging traditional notions of representation and embracing the power of simplicity and geometric motifs to convey profound meaning and novelty.
