I’m Burçin IO. I’m a multidisciplinary artist. I was born in Istanbul in 1984. As a changing and growing country with its amazing nature and cultures, Turkey, has been always a beautiful place for me to observe, discover and learn…
As a self-taught creative; I have started my career as jr. creative in fashion and tv industries. During these years; i got my first DSLR camera and began to document the events and express my creativity by photography. I ‘ve been performed in various creative jobs for tv talent shows, circus, dance competitions, fashion shows, concerts etc. with Tanju Babacan Fashion Studio.
In following years I became a creative director for several brands, consultant and mentor for designers, entrepreneur, tv script writer, project designer in philanthropic area…
Even I still do most of these jobs today with a great passion, the place of art in my life deserves an exclusive explanation. Since early years of my career, I create art, especially as photography with such an enormous excite, I’m sure I can say art making is the ultimate freedom and lenses are gateways to my uneducated, uncensored mind.
For creating a memorial forest in Turkey, an individual can take one of couple paths which always requires to collaborate with an NGO by donating money for the operational part of the project and of course those NGOs rely on the directions of dedicated department of government especially on location of the forest is gonna be planted and other paperworks required. Min 2000 seedlings has to be planted to register the field as a memorial forest for individual donations.

I created this collection purely by thinking about trees, branching, recursion, fractalization since i was studying and trying to improve skills on nodeJS creative coding. I personally have a strong connection with trees since i known myself. Climbed on them. Munched their fruits. Fell from them. Hid behind them. Covered under them. Carved them. Burnt them. Smelt them. Enjoyed their presence and the serenity they gave me in every moment of my life when i m around of some. You can see it in my other works too as you perhaps know already that this gif here called ‘Serenity’ is an early work themed with trees.
My curiosity on armoring new skills and habit to revisit my knowledge and past experiences with a new perspective led me to think about this project seriously than i had started. That’s why i created this collection with a script generated 2000 pngs in different volumes and color palettes so each forest image represented by a token on blockchain can also represent a donation for a tree to planted in the memorial forest in name of cryptoart community located in Turkey.
basedFOREST collection has 2000 uniquely generated images carrying two main traits which are ‘Color Palettes’ and ‘Forest Volume’. Color Palettes trait category has 20 different options with 87 colors coded at total while Forest Volume trait category is defined by the row count of the forest generated which can be up to 12 rows.
85 Turkish Liras is the required donation for planting 1 tree. We will need 2.000 trees planted at least to register the field as a memorial forest.
An NGO will operate buying the seedlings, planting and paperworks with dedicated government departments including a sign with the name of our choice in the field.
A token in the collection will represent 1 tree in the forest and will fund it to be real.
I will create an ethereum address for this collection to share the income and the royalties to secure the donation of the forest with the primary sellout and create even further projects, perhaps forests with the royalties may come from secondary sales. Share of donation account will be %25. Each primary sale and royalties coming from secondary sales will generate %25 funds for planting forests starting from Turkey and who knows perhaps in other regions too hopefully…
I can only share the name of the NGO I prefer to collaborate after we do the donation and sign a contract with them which will start the process of creation of the forest. This is required by the NGO to avoid using their identity on promoting independent campaigns etc. Once the donation is done, we sign a contract with the NGO and the actual process starts. They are the biggest and the first NGO comes to mind when we talk about nature and trees in Turkey, tho. Easy to google .)
NGO can only plant trees in designated locations provided by government at the time of the contract. So including government relations, from buying seedlings to planting them, registering the memorial name to gov system and create a sign in field; NGO is responsible from everything including creating proofs, footages. Unfortunately donators are not allowed to participate and document the planting but I’m sure i will visiting the forest and getting footage periodically.
