Amazon Facades - Luiz Braga

Amazon Facades is part of my research on the common views seen along the peripheral riverside communities of the Amazon. In this series, the creativity of the caboclo (acculturated Brazilian Indian) architecture plays the leading role in the images. Color is used in the architecture as an element of identity, where each person reveals their distinctiveness through chromatic combinations, whose origin may lie in their indigenous ancestry and their need to stand out from the green of the forest – almost like a tattoo that replaces the system of numbering houses with colors. The vast majority are wooden houses built in harmony with the surroundings, where households live off fishing or family farming. All works were done in the Amazon between 2007 and 2021.
