The development of cryptography and encryption theory in the 20th century laid the groundwork for decentralized digital systems. In 2009, Bitcoin emerged as the first cryptocurrency to implement distributed consensus and data protection without reliance on centralized authorities. At its core was the concept of the private key, which grants users full control over their digital assets. To simplify the management and recovery of these keys, the seed phrase was introduced—a sequence of 12 or more human-readable words that can restore a cryptographic wallet. Defined by the BIP-39 standard, these phrases are generated from a fixed list of 2,048 words. Today, the seed phrase is a cornerstone of security and self-custody in the crypto ecosystem.
