Yuga Labs, the company behind Bored Ape Yacht Club, Mutant Ape Yacht Club, the metaverse platform, Otherside, and more, has announced a series of new collaborations and drops in the last few weeks.
KodaPendant: Otherside Relics by Gucci
On March 27, 2023, luxury fashion house Gucci announced their upcoming partnership with Yuga Labs. The announcement itself read, “Continuing to explore the Metaverse, the House comes together with @yugalabs. Stay tuned as a new narrative takes shape, blurring the boundaries between the physical and digital,” implying that there would be a phygital — or combination of physical and digital — element to the drop.
A few days later, Yuga officially announced KodaPendant, Otherside: Relics by Gucci. According to the website, “The KodaPendant is the first relic in the Otherside Relics by Gucci collection and is dedicated to Vessel and Koda NFT Holders, focused on the intersection of digital and physical spaces. The KodaPendant features a 3,333 limited edition metadata visual update for your Vessel or Koda NFT (digital KodaPendant). Holders of the Vessel or Koda NFTs with the KodaPendant trait will, for no additional cost, be able to access a branded chat handle and trail VFX in Otherside and claim a physical KodaPendant at a later date.”
The digital KodaPendant gives owners a metadata trait, a permanent visual upgrade to a selected Koda or Vessel, including a KodaPendant for the owner’s Koda or Vessel and branded, limited edition frame, and downloadable images of their Koda/Vessel.
The physical KodaPendant, which Yuga states will be available in the Summer of 2023, will be made with .925 silver with an antique finish, have a Koda-shaped pendant with GG engraving, an interlocking G chain, a Baroque-inspired engraving, an engraved back depicting a physical KodaPendant edition number, a 50cm long chain, and a 22mm x 24mm pendant.

Otherdeed Expanded
This project ties into Yuga’s metaverse platform, Otherside, which they describe as a “gamified, interoperable metaverse.” While the project is still in development and not yet available to the wider public, Yuga has revealed that the game will blend mechanics from MMORPGs and web3-enabled virtual worlds and will differentiate itself by enabling players to own the world. Last week, Yuga released a new collection called Otherdeed Expanded, which enables holders to play future games in the Yuga Labs universe. Like the original Otherdeed collection, each NFT has its own unique blend of environment and sediment, and some contain resources and artifacts.

Otherdeed Expanded: Decoupling and Vessel Claim event
In addition, Yuga launched their Otherdeed Expanded: Decoupling and Vessel Claim event. Holders can choose to burn existing Otherdeed NFTs to gain access to Yuga’s new gaming experiences (for example, Otherside: The Legend of Mara) and activations outside of Otherside, the game. This burning process will result in users receiving new NFTs, including Vessel NFTs and Otherdeed Expanded NFTs that will be integral pieces to playing the game going forward.
Now that it’s open, it will stay that way indefinitely. Voyagers can participate in the decoupling by claiming a Vessel, and don’t need to be a Koda holder to do so. The Voyagers’ wallet will receive the new NFTs, and then serve as the key to accessing new features within the Otherdeed Expanded metaverse.
