NFC Summit 2026 turns Lisbon into a three-day crypto art exhibition
NFC Summit 2026, a crypto art conference running June 4 to 6 in Lisbon, packed its venue with solo shows, gallery presentations, community displays, NFT preservation projects, a book launch, and a generative art series inspired by the city's signature tilework.
Arab Bank Switzerland-sponsored exhibition SYSTEMS filled the top floor with work from artists including Kim Asendorf, Jack Butcher, and Linda Dounia, all of whom built art using rule-based processes rather than freehand creation.
The summit also included a freshly completed mural by NFT artist collective Normies unveiled at Unicorn Factory, as well as a live mural of XCOPY's iconic piece "The Doomed" painted on the streets of Lisbon by commissioned artist Loro Masnah during the NFC Summit. OpenSea hosted a panel on artist activations and collector communities.
Rounding out the summit was a McBotto pop-up shop, presented by BottoDAO, an AI-powered autonomous artist collective, complete with collectible toys and an immersive exhibition treating Botto as a full pop-culture figure.
Dutch geometric master Mondrian gets his first-ever authorized digital reinterpretation (and it's in bubblegum pink)
For the first time in over eight decades of stewardship, the Piet Mondrian Estate / Holtzman Trust approved a creative reinterpretation of the Dutch geometric painter's compositions, handing that honor to Doodles and licensed fine art platform ElmonX.
The result swaps Mondrian's signature primary color palette for mint green, baby blue, and bubblegum pink, and it drops Doodles' cast of cartoon characters into the painter's precisely balanced grids.
ElmonX, which has previously brought digital collectibles tied to da Vinci, Van Gogh, and Monet to market, produced museum-quality physical screenprints alongside the NFTs, available in holographic foil and halftone paper variants.
Mastercard brings stablecoin settlement to its global payments network
Global payments giant Mastercard announced it will expand credit card settlement capabilities using regulated stablecoins, which are digital currencies pegged to the value of traditional money like the U.S. dollar, according to a company statement.
Supported tokens will include Ripple's RLUSD, Circle's USDC, and SoFi's SoFiUSD, with transactions processed across public blockchains including Ethereum, Solana, Base and more.
The expansion gives issuers and acquirers new options for intraday, holiday, and weekend card settlements, which helps extend financial infrastructure into hours traditional banks typically go dark.
Initial support covers transactions in the U.S. and Latin America, with further expansion expected throughout the remainder of the year.
A Michigan couple just used Bitcoin to close on a Fannie Mae-backed home mortgage
A Michigan couple closed on the first government-guaranteed home mortgage secured by Bitcoin, the world's largest cryptocurrency, marking a first in U.S. housing history.
The couple worked with mortgage lender Better to pledge $250,000 in Bitcoin as collateral toward a $100,000 down payment on a Fannie Mae-backed loan, a federal program in which the government guarantees repayment to lenders, without selling a single coin or facing a tax bill.
Coinbase said the product is expected to expand to qualified borrowers nationwide in the coming months, with support for Circle's USDC, a dollar-pegged digital currency, also in the pipeline.
Routine price swings carry no impact on the loan, according to Better, though the company said a 60-day payment delinquency could prompt the lender to liquidate the pledged crypto.
Tether and digital banking platform Fasset launch the world's first gold-backed Visa card
Stablecoin giant Tether and digital banking platform Fasset announced the launch of a Visa card that lets users spend everyday dollars at any merchant while earning up to 6% cashback in XAU₮, a digital token in which each unit represents one troy ounce of physical gold stored in a London vault.
The card also includes an automatic round-up function that converts spare change from every purchase into gold, helping build holdings passively through routine spending.
Fasset, which operates across Asia and Africa as one of the region's largest crypto-to-cash conversion providers, will handle the wallet infrastructure, with gold rewards depositing into user accounts in real time.
Tether is committing up to $1 million in XAU₮ to seed the card's rewards program, targeting emerging markets where currency instability has driven appetite for gold-backed financial tools.
