Welcome to the OpenSea digest. Let’s look back through the biggest NFT and web3 news of the week.

77-Bit invites players to its Abstract open beta

77-Bit, a “Cyberpunk”-style MMORPG, is launching its open beta on the Abstract blockchain after three years of development. The game features a multiplayer open world with fast-paced combat, quests, dungeons, and modes like “roguelike” and “PvPvE.”

Built to push the limits of browser gaming, the 77-Bit team’s choice to integrate with Abstract aligns with its web3 vision. Players can join for free, with no download required, while owning NFTs allows players to buy and sell digital items.

Shiba Inu enters the metaverse

Shiba Inu’s much-anticipated metaverse project, “SHIB: The Metaverse,” opened for early access on Dec. 24. On X, the team stated that users have the opportunity to own land, build worlds, and explore “boundless adventures” inside the virtual environment, with digital land parcels available for Shiba token holders.

Among the new metaverse is a game, “Lap Dogs”, which is a runner-style racing challenge where winners get prizes for crossing the finish line. Those interested in exploring beyond the viral Shiba Inu memes that inspired this crypto project can check out shibthemetaverse.io for more information.

New Telegram feature turns digital gifts into NFTs

Messaging app Telegram just turned texting with your friends into a collectible experience.

On Jan. 1, the platform introduced Collectible Gifts, a new feature letting users upgrade digital gifts into NFT collectibles, which can be customized, shared, and “unpacked” directly in the app.

The Collectible Gifts initiative follows a series of Telegram features that use blockchain to improve the user experience, including the ability to send verification codes for business phone numbers through the Fragment marketplace.

Wilder World drops gameplay trailer

Wilder World, an open-world metaverse game based in the futuristic, Miami-inspired city of “Wiami,” released its first gameplay trailer in the days leading up to the new year.

The video showcases ultra-detailed cityscapes designed in art director Frank Wilder’s clean aesthetic, along with race scenes, gripping first-person-shooter combat, and social interactions between players.

At the time of the announcement, Wilder World was reportedly the No. 9 most wish-listed game on the Epic Games store.

WanderCorp introduces $WANDER token

WanderCorp, a blockchain-based gaming and entertainment ecosystem, is launching its upcoming $WANDER token on Jan. 10. The drop will happen on Base, Coinbase’s layer-two (L2) blockchain network.

According to the company’s descriptions of the new token, the universe includes four key pillars: community, collectors, gamers, and creators. $WANDER powers this universe by providing players with opportunities to engage within the ecosystem.

Cool Cats and Doodles tease new tokens for their communities

Cool Cats, the blue-chip NFT project following Blue Cat and his friends, teased plans for a token tied to future utility and ecosystem growth on Dec. 18. The project teased its plans on X after a fan spotted Blue Cat’s face on coins in an episode of its animated short series, “The Milk Chug.”

Meanwhile, Doodles founder Burnt Toast sent out a tweet that community members decoded to spell out “token is coming.”

Cool Cats previously used its first token, $MILK, to power Cooltopia, a browser-based community that held both online and in-real-life (IRL) experiences for fans.

Doodles, on the other hand, spent 2024 locking in deals with McDonald’s, PlayStation, and AriZona iced tea, along with debuting its animated “Dullsville and the Doodleverse” series at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in Sept. 2024.
