Ubisoft Dives Into NFTs With 'Champions Tactics: Grimoire Chronicles'

Leading video game publisher Ubisoft dove headfirst into blockchain gaming with the minting of “Champions Tactics: Grimoire Chronicles” on December 18. The drop marked the publisher’s first foray into NFTs, with the collection featuring 8,000 Warlord NFTs for play inside the immersive RPG game.

The pixel-style PFP images double as in-game avatars for play on the EVM-compatible Oasys chain. Minting comes with the chance to mint five additional fee-free “Champions Tactics.” Ubisoft also reportedly confirmed the studio is collaborating with NFT gaming projects Pixelmon and CyberKongz, so players can likely expect to see some updates in 2024.

On December 16, the collaborative web3 storytelling project, 0N1 Force, hosted the “Web3 Strikes Back” event, a major convergence of blockchain gaming titans, via Twitch.

The event featured games and activities, including the highly anticipated Fortnite Web3 Founder’s Cup with NFL Super Bowl champion JuJu Smith-Schuster.

Attendees could earn various prizes, including up to 500 0N1 points and proof of attendance protocols (POAPs). The event’s sponsor, the Emmy Award-winning blockchain-based shooter game Shrapnel, also sent 10,000 Lightpack NFTs to select lucky participants.

Attendees later shared their excitement on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), thanking the 0N1 Force team for a fantastic event that highlighted the community and fostered camaraderie.

Immutable Debuts Passport Gaming Wallet in 'Gods Unchained'

Blockchain gaming developer Immutable is changing the blockchain gaming scene again with the launch of Immutable Passport. The game-changing identity manager gives players a single-sign-on method and wallet, thereby allowing them to carry digital assets across multiple crypto games and marketplaces seamlessly.

Launched after its successful beta, Immutable Passport is now reportedly integrated into five platforms, including the games “Gods Unchained” and “Blockete Golf.” The passport works with Immutable X on Ethereum and will soon utilize Polygon’s zkEVM technology for more advanced scaling applications.

Phantom Adds Bitcoin Support

On December 19, Solana-based multichain wallet Phantom released a short video featuring the Bitcoin logo on X (formerly Twitter) teasing that Phantom now supports Bitcoin (BTC). Bitcoin support is currently in beta, so users must opt-in to transact in BTC.

According to Phantom’s developer documentation, which was updated on December 20, the wallet currently supports Solana, Ethereum, Bitcoin, and Polygon networks. Phantom wallets support both Native SegWit addresses (common for BTC transactions) and Taproot addresses (common for Bitcoin ordinals).
