The digital fashion show that resulted from the Covid-19 pandemic, allowed the world to become closer and made everything “flat.” On screen, 3-dimensional figures and 2-dimensional planes look equally “flat.” Also, the boundary between inside and outside of the screen is becoming less noticeable. Now, fashion is something that can even be worn inside the screen, not just outside of the screen.
The collection begins with the animation from director Mamoru Hosoda’s latest film, “Belle: The Dragon and the Freckled Princess,” and takes place in “U,” the virtual universe portrayed in the film. Triangular fabric pieces float through this virtual universe and eventually come together, taking the shape of a CG avatar and pieces of clothing. Then, the scene switches dimensions, showing an actual real-life model walking down a white space, putting the previous virtual image behind her. Finally, the fabric pieces disperse into the air and vanish into the virtual universe.
