Hyotankozo

He is depicted as a human-like figure with a gourd-shaped head, together with the Chibachi-bo. Considering that the subject matter of the yokai depicted in the Hyakki Tsurenpukuro is yokai of vessels, the gourd of the gourd boy may refer to a gourd (fukube, hisago) processed as a tool, used as a container for sake and water, as a bowl-beater, or as a percussion instrument at festivals and other occasions, rather than a plant, which is thought to refer to the use of the hiyotan (fukube, hisago) as a tool.

瓢箪小僧（ひょうたんこぞう）

頭部が瓢箪となった人のような姿で、乳鉢坊といっしょに描かれている。『百器徒然袋』に描かれている妖怪たちの主題は器物の妖怪たちであることを考えれば、瓢箪小僧のヒョウタンは、植物としてのものというよりも、酒や水の容器として用いられたり、鉢叩きや祭礼などで打楽器として使われている、道具として加工されたヒョウタン（ふくべ・ひさご）を指していると考えられる。
