This hydroponic/ vertical farming startup premise is based on NASA's KSC-TOPS-73 technology, aka 'Farming In Space.' The originator of VaaSS licensed the technology from NASA under their Technology Transfer program.
The entrepreneur's objective is to create plentiful, accessible sources of fruits & veggies here on Earth, specifically in 'food deserts' and/or food insecure communities.

VaaSS differs from other vertical farming projects in that its structure is decentralized. So, rather than build a huge warehouse in which veggies and fruits are grown vertically and then distributed via complex and far-reaching supply chains, this premise plants smaller greenhouses within communities.
