Forest wildfires had began to spread in Chernobyl Exclusion Zone by the 4th of April 2020. By April the 13th the fire had reached the notorious Red Forest near the Chernobyl power plant.

Wildfire had devastated 20 ha. of forest, had destroyed 12 abandoned villages and a military town, had got dangerously close to Pripyat suburbs and to the radioactive waste storage “Podlesny”. Half of the Red Forest had been burned down — effectively sending radioactive ashes up to the air once again.

Wildfire has been brought under control by April the 14th thanks to the night rain.

2020 was no joke. We’d known it already by that time, but it continued to demonstrate its evil powers.

Wildfires cause significant greengas emissions and destroy forests that could suck in excessive CO2 from atmosphere.

Planting trees at mass is TOP-1 most effective method of fighting global climate change: it makes a significant environmental impact while being the simplest of all methods and relatively cheap at the same time.
