No work of art grips the imagination quite like the Mona Lisa (La Gioconda): the most famous painting in Western art history. While significant, it also reflects patriarchal power structures typical of when it was created, and its popularity has reinforced those norms in subsequent generations. It is hard to reinsert women into the Western art history canon. However, today's ethos of decentralized curation and art on the blockchain offers women an inclusive approach to re-evaluating art history. This "apeified" version of the Mona Lisa is meant to reject this biased history while still recognizing her immortal fame.
