Letters perceived in colours in front of your eyes. Tasting words. Seeing sounds. All of this sounds like nonsense, but those familiar with the neurological phenomenon called synesthesia know crossed-senses are possible. Synesthesia is when electricity crosses the brain’s hemispheres into foreign parts, as this painting tries to reproduce, creating sensations not considered ‘normal’. Some call it faulty wiring. I see it as different wiring. But that our senses can so wildly differ, reveals that nothing is fixed, not even the very things we rely upon for every second of our lives.
