One of the most striking features of Korea, at least for me, is the overabundance of love hotels. People go to these love hotels to do exactly what you think they do. The reason they serve such a vital role in South Korea, is because the majority of people, even up to their 40s, still live with their parents. 
If you live with family, it is hard to have any kind of privacy especially with your lover, as a result, there is an abundance of love hotels for them to do as they wish behind closed doors. Surprisingly the rates are very row, as low as 30 dollars in some cases. But you don't have to go to these hotels to do 'that', I often use them whenever I travel the country as a cheap place to stay.
