The Jaguaress is an Indigenous woman and the director in Prison X, an exception in a male- dominated world. Eccentric, aloof and clumsy, she's followed by two jaguars (her spirit animal). The jaguar is in danger of extinction, just as the Jaguaress’ spirit feels trapped in the Western world. The jaguar once hunted is the strongest animal of the Amazon and an ornament for the hunter. While refusing to allow her stories to be sold as exotic trophies; the Jaguaress is determined to create her own world. She rules this show.
She wears a sleek black coat with Andean ornaments. Her mask and headset is golden like the gold taken out of the Amazon. Her breast reveals jaguar tattoos, while her pants have an Amazonian jaguar print, their eyes flaming as if they are reflecting its burning home. The placement of the eye on the crotch intentionally connects the Jaguaress with the jaguar in an intimate way, symbolizing the vagina as the origin of creation under the eye of nature.
The eccentric deity the Jaguaress greets you at the velvet curtain, the gateway between theatre and lived experience. She casts you as Inti, a young man who dreamed of being the Sun God, (son of Viracocha, the maker of time), but ended up in Prison.
Inside the world of Prison X, you relinquish control over reality, as you embody one of the characters in the Jaguaress’ story where you have to coexist with devils, saints, corrupt prison guards and even a western filmmaker. Prison X is a mythological journey inside the dreams and nightmares of the Neo-Andean underworld.
Prison X premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2021 to critical acclaim and will premiere in Europe at Cannes XR.
