Ilaria Berenice drew this portrait after watching a documentary about a tribe in Africa. Men from that tribe put plates on women’s lips to make them look ugly so that they don't get raped by men from other tribes.
She was so shocked that she had to express her feelings. She says that violence is used to chase away violence. The woman portrayed looks far away, she looks beyond everything, to look within. Oil colors and sand are the main media used in the painting.

Humanity is made of infinite faces that are the reflection of infinite aspects. A face can represent an emotion or a temporary feeling, and beyond that it represents consciousness that is infinite but also unique and individual.
With faces, Ilaria Berenice expresses the infinite aspects that are within her and are reflected in the diversified humanity. She says that luckily, we are not all the same, everyone is unique in their individuality, even if people try to fit into everything that is defined as normal in order to feel accepted at social level.
She wants to enhance the diversity reflected in the faces that she has been creating and portraying for years in detail or in abstraction, and in which the viewer can also see their reflection.
