I awoke with a start as a cold droplet of condensation dripped onto my nose. My face was ungracefully plastered to the passenger window of my girlfriends car. Groggily, I wiped a drool icicle off my beard… icicle? My breath fogged and questions flooded my mind. Why is it so cold? It’s summertime isn’t it? How long was I sleeping? Why are we stopped? Wait! Where’s my girl? And just like that the sounds cam into focus. Ding, Ding, Ding, went the car, drivers side door was ajar, keys still in the ignition. The wind blowing, the whispers. Wait, there was no wind, what’s making that… sound. My heart dropped as dread settled deeper into my bones than the biting cold. It was coming from the car speakers, and my phone, even from my laptop packed away int he back seat. Every speaker at the same time, How? The hair stood on the back of my neck, as I listened. “We are coming. We are coming for your world. You have stalled us for too long” Voices whispered, echoing as if in a metal tunnel. I jumped as the gps screen, the car dash and my phone screen all blazed alight, and on every screen… the same image. Teeth, bones, an Erie light and the whispers. What IS that thing. Suddenly everything went dark. My phone shut off, the car turned off, instant silence. Then, out in the darkness, I heard my girlfriend screaming.
