Alongside his famed psychedelic portraits, Chamberlain uses layers of artificial coloured lighting to form fantasy themed still-life photographs. In 'Yellow Tulips' Chamberlain uses his lighting technique to challenge our perception of 3 dimensional objects. He explores the landscape of the subject with his paintbrush of light until the flowers display differently than we'd anticipate using our current expectations of light. The composition is left with characteristics of a traditional still-life painting.
